Transparent Project Wall
When a craft project is interrupted by dinner or work, its unfinished piece and materials slide into a transparent vertical tray, clearing the table while keeping the next project to resume in plain sight.
When a craft project is halfway done and the desk suddenly needs to serve dinner or work, materials often get shoved into a box—and days later, the project itself is forgotten. The product is a wall of transparent vertical slots placed beside a desk or mounted on a wall. Each project gets its own shallow tray, holding brushes, thread, fabric, and the unfinished work together, so the tabletop can be cleared in seconds.
To start a new project, the user takes a tray and clips a project name and “next step” card to its edge, such as “sew three buttons onto the cuff.” The front of the tray must show one memory-triggering material: a ball of yarn, a piece of patterned fabric, or the sketch currently in progress. Because each slot is only one layer deep, projects line up like book spines, with no materials buried behind other boxes.
When it is time to resume, the user pulls out the full tray and lays it out directly, without hunting again for scissors, needles, or reference images. A progress card on the back records where the project stopped and which materials are still needed; tapping the tag on the card with a phone opens replenishment links or previously captured detail photos. At the end of a session, the tray slides back into its vertical slot. The project remains in view while the desk is usable again.
The first release would offer two tray sizes for paper crafts, painting, knitting, and sewing, along with a desktop stand and wall-mount rail. It does not attempt to inventory every craft supply. Its purpose is to keep active projects visible, pullable, and easy to resume.
Why now
On August 6, a craft enthusiast preparing to move into a new home publicly sought an orderly, vertical, visible way to store materials. S1 When a workspace is being reset, the forgetting caused by drawers and boxes needs to be addressed on the spot.
Target user
People who craft at a dining table, desk, or corner of the living room and are often interrupted by meals, work, or household tasks before a project is complete. Once the table is cleared, unfinished work and project-specific materials scatter, and resuming requires reconstructing their progress. The recovery cost is especially noticeable for people rotating among paper crafts, painting, knitting, and sewing projects.
Minimal entry point
Validate paper crafts and fiber crafts first with two standard shallow tray sizes. Trays can be bent or thermoformed from transparent plastic, with low retaining lips around the edges. Adjustable dividers in the vertical slots accommodate project thickness, alongside a desktop stand and wall-mount rail. A front card slot keeps the project name, next step, and representative material visible together. NFC tags store only the project page URL; photos and replenishment links live on a lightweight web page. Prototype testing should focus on loose items stored vertically, one-handed tray removal, and wall load capacity.
Punching above its weight
Recruit early users among crafters working at shared dining tables or in small home workspaces. Use short videos to show the full sequence: interrupted, stored as a complete tray, then pulled out again. Create real sample trays for paper crafts, knitting, and sewing so viewers can judge whether their materials fit. Offer printable project-card templates to build a DIY user base first, then sell hardware sets to frequent users.

How it makes money
Sell hardware as one-time purchases. The base set includes a desktop stand, transparent trays, and project cards; the wall-mount rail is a separate configuration. Offer add-on trays, dividers, and replacement cards individually.
The case against
Keeping several unfinished projects continuously visible through transparent trays may turn a reminder into visual overload. If users pack the slots too tightly, front-facing materials can still obscure one another. Yarn, needles, paint, and paper need different retention mechanisms, so a universal tray can easily compromise on all of them. Vertical storage also creates risks of loose pieces falling, liquid leaking, and paper bending. A wall-mounted version must address load capacity, anchoring, and children’s access to sharp tools. Project cards also depend on users updating them when they stop; otherwise, they must still work out their progress next time.
